Why You Need Your Model Number
Your laptop model number is essential for ordering the correct replacement parts, finding compatible upgrades, and getting accurate repair quotes.
Where to Find It
1. Bottom of the Laptop
Flip your laptop over and look for a sticker or label. Most manufacturers place the model number here along with serial numbers and specifications.
- Dell: Look for "Model:" or "P/N:" on the service tag sticker
- HP: Check the product label for the model name
- Lenovo: Find the MTM (Machine Type Model) number
- ASUS: Look for the model name starting with letters like "X" or "VivoBook"
2. Inside the Battery Compartment
If your laptop has a removable battery, the model number might be printed under it. Turn off your laptop, remove the battery, and check.
3. System Information (Windows)
Press Windows Key + Pause/Break to open System Information. Your model is listed under "System Model" or "System SKU."
4. System Information (Mac)
Click the Apple menu ? About This Mac. Your model name and year will be displayed.
5. Original Box or Documents
Check your laptop's original packaging or purchase receipt for the model number.
What to Do With It
Once you have your model number:
- Use it to search for compatible parts and accessories
- Provide it when requesting a repair quote
- Check warranty status on manufacturer websites
- Find specific repair guides for your model
